Prepper Gear Lab about:
Honest, tested reviews to help families prepare without fear or fluff.
Hey, I’m Jake Harrow — husband, dad of three, Army veteran, and the guy behind PrepperGearLab.com.
We live at 2,100 ft in the Ozark Mountains of northwest Arkansas. After leaving the military I spent the last eight years quietly building a layered family emergency plan that’s been real-world tested more times than I like to admit:
9-day flood in 2023 that cut the only road in or out
Multiple 5–10 day grid-down winter storms
Tornado warnings that turned into actual touchdowns two counties over
Week-long blackouts when summer storms shredded the rural grid
I learned trauma medicine overseas and family prepping the hard way here at home. When the power’s gone for days and the kids are scared, there’s no rewind button. That’s why I test every piece of gear the same way most dads test toys — by actually using it with my wife and kids when things go sideways.
I’m not selling freeze-dried unicorn meat or pushing end-of-the-world panic. I’m just a former soldier turned dad who knows the right $250 first-aid kit beats a $2,500 one that’s still in the box when you need it.
Everything on PrepperGearLab.com is independently bought and tested. Affiliate links help keep the lights on (and the site free), but I’ll never recommend something my family wouldn’t stake our lives on.
If you’re a parent who wants practical, battle-tested gear that actually works when the grid doesn’t — you’re in the right place.
Stick around. Grab a kit that’s been Ozark-tested and veteran-approved. And sleep a little better tonight.
